Howdy folks! We're back in action. Thanks
for bearing with me as I took a much-needed vacation. Hope you've
all had a great summer! -B

Heads up for all you folks who check out
the website regularly: the site will not be updated for the next
two weeks (18th and 25th). If you're looking for upcoming releases,
please check here (apologies, but no prices will be listed at
this time).

Howdy! It's been a while, hasn't it? Hope
everyone's been enjoying the fine weather we've been getting recently.
I just wanted to give everyone a heads
up about a technical bump we've been experiencing this week -
our e-mail wasn't quite up to snuff. That being said, the problem
has been solved and there shouldn't be any need to resend your
e-mail. Just keep in mind that it'll take a while for us to sift
through it and get responses out to you. The affected days were
Thursday and Friday of this week (15th and 16th of March).
Other than that, things continue as normal,
if not better. We hope to see you soon!

Good tidings to all of you! Today's update
is a quick hit, but as quick as it is, don't underestimate the
weight behind it... and the analogy kind of dies there. Regardless,
this coming Tuesday (the 6th) marks the triumphant return of Eddie
Murphy's DELIRIOUS to home video!
It's been a long time coming, but Murphy's
hilarious (and notorious) silver-screen stand-up routine has finally
come out of legal limbo and is now gracing our shelves. If you
missed it when it was huge, now's your chance to finally see the
'set' that made Eddie Murphy a name worth remembering. If you've
only seen his Disney films, this is a chance to see Murphy's roots
as a controversial, but ultimately entertaining comic. By today's
standards, Delirious isn't quite as shocking, but you can't pass
up the chance to see classic bits like "Ice Cream" and
"GI Joe".
The wait is finally over; catch Murphy
at his absolute best!

Greetings! It's been a while, hasn't it?
A lot has happened since we last saw each other, and there's some
important stuff you might have missed.
First and foremost, while Boxing Week has
long since passed, we still can't seem to end our sale. While
the sale isn't as extensive as it was on Boxing Week, you can
still select from several quality titles up to 50% off their sticker
price. Secondly, we are now beginning to take pre-orders for titles
one month in advance. This cannot be done over the phone as any
pre-order you wish to make will require a small deposit, but now
is your chance to reserve your most-anticipated titles for release
day! This means you no longer have to scurry across town to find
that elusive new release. We'll make sure that we have one for
you, so keep your eyes open for those release dates!
Finally, there have been and will be a
few changes that might interest you. First and foremost, earlier
this month Vanessa left us to pursue other opportunities. We wish
her good luck in her future endeavours. Although it was mentioned
in this month's newsletter (you can still sign up for free by
sending us an e-mail with your name, phone number, and e-mail
address here), I, too, will be taking my leave from DVD Wave and
will no longer be behind the counter as of this Saturday (the
20th). Do not fret too much, however (as if you would), as I am
still going to be around in the form you know me best: digitally.
That is to say, I'll still be taking care of the site that you're
looking at as well as continuing to write the monthly newsletter
so you haven't quite gotten rid of me yet (insert evil cackle
here).
That being said, Michelle and Aurore will
still be around to provide you the fantastic service that you've
come to know and love at DVD Wave, and you can likely expect to
see and get to know some new faces while we eagerly await Hope's
return from maternity leave. Michel, as always, will be at the
flea market every weekend (see our Contacts tab for address information)
if you're out and about that way, too.
I want to thank everyone for the great
time I've had over the past two years, and I'm sure I'll see you
all again from time to time. It's been a fantastic experience
and I hope that you give the new guys and/or gals the same kind
of love. From my roots as a customer to my time behind the counter,
DVD Wave has always been like a second home to me. It will continue
to be so in the future, and I hope that stays the same with you,
too.
Peace,
Brendon @ DVD Wave

Merry Christmas to every one out there
in the GTA and surrounding area! I hope you all had safe and joyous
celebrations with your families and/or loved ones. Or, if you
prefer, a wonderfully quiet evening.
As we at DVD Wave have geared up for the
Boxing Week sale going on, we want to remind everyone to be safe.
Remember that a deal's not worth getting yourself hurt or worse
over. As of this writing, the roads are getting slippery and at
this hectic time of year, some of us may be throwing caution to
the wind. While we'd all love to see you here this week, we'd
also like to see you make it here in one piece.
In any case, it's pretty clear from the
release schedule that things are drastically slowing down in Hollywood
after Rush Week. While the titles aren't as numerous as we'd all
like, there are some great ones to look forward to. Yesterday's
release of the Black Dahlia and the Descent should please anyone
looking for a little darker material after the bright lights and
egg nog, and in the interest of staying safe, you can take pleasure
(if that so be your disposition) in watching -other- people hurt
themselves with Jackass Number Two. Next week sees the release
of Sam Jackson vehicle, Snakes on a Plane, and gothic teen drama,
The Covenant. The week after will provide us with the adrenaline-fueled
Crank, the sexy, gunslinging Bandidas, the mysteriously romantic
Illusionist, mystery-thriller The Night Listener, and overall
poor grammar from me, though you get that one for free. There's
more, and if you're interested, you can point your browsers to
our upcoming releases page (see the bar above).
Of course, the real news, as mentioned
above, is that Boxing Week is here (woo!). Everything in our store
is on sale, from 10% to 50% off the sticker price. If there's
something you've been teetering on the fence with, now's the time
to nab it up for a great price. Nothing has been spared from the
sale (with the only exception being outstanding orders), so come
visit us and rest assured that you'll find great savings on our
shelves.
Thanks to everyone for a terrific holiday
season, and from us to you, we hope you all have a great new year!
Carrying on,
The DVD Wave Team

Welcome one and all to Rush Week; it's
that one final stretch of "business days" before the
big day when we can see what all our effort has come to. For those
of you already celebrating your special time of year, have a happy
and a merry (grammar schmammar).
For those of you who have rested on your
laurels, rest assured that Hollywood has done the same and a whole
string of quality titles has just hit shelves, just in time for
Rush Week. First up, you can now catch Sean Penn doing his thing
in the Pulitzer-winning rise-and-fall story, All the King's Men.
Kung fu aficionados can turn their attention to Jet Li's Fearless,
his allegedly final martial arts film, directed by Ronny Yu and
choreographed by Yuen Wo Ping (Kill Bill, the Matrix). For those
of you who like to see families that are (much) worse off than
your own, the quirky comedy, Little Miss Sunshine, comes to us
with Greg Kinnear and Steve Carrell helming the on-screen dysfunction.
If that's not your cup o' comedy, you can always try Ivan Reitman's
(Groundhog Day, Old School) My Super Ex-Girlfriend, a film about
what happens when your ex also happens to have superpowers. On
the more family-friendly side, we've got Disney's inspiring football
film, Invincible, starring Mark Wahlburg as the true-story sports
hero. Sci-fi fans can enjoy the very stylish cell-shaded (animated)
film, A Scanner Darkly, based on yet another of Phillip K. Dick's
stories, featuring Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., and Woody
Harrelson. That's not all! Horror fans can freak themselves out
with both the original and remake of The Wicker Man, as well as
surprise-ending 'master' M. Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water,
featuring Paul Giamatti (finally) in the spotlight.
For television fans, the news is just as
good. CSI season 6 is here with your favorite original Las Vegas
team members still doing their thing, following the Miami team's
release just a week ago. E.R. fans now have their sixth season
as well, and Simpsons fans can celebrate the coming movie with
season 9 of their favorite three-fingered family. Let's not forget,
of course, the classic war string-up Hogan's Heroes as its fifth
season comes to us with all its classic... hijinks. I apologize;
I never use that word.
Before I go, a quick reminder that Boxing
Day is still on at DVD Wave, and we'll be sending out a reminder
and details through our mailing list in the very near future.
Otherwise, you can feel free to check the website (this one, of
course) for the details, which will likely posted on or about
the 26th.
Have a merry Christmas, everyone, and happy
holidays to the rest of you!
Arrrr,
Brendon @ DVD Wave

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane!
Or if you prefer, happy holidays and seasons
greetings from everyone at DVD Wave! Though many of us celebrate
different holidays this time of year, I think it's safe to say
that we can be unified in our love for film and television. It
almost sounds worldly when it's put that way, doesn't it?
As we approach the holidays, several of
you may be pulling your hair out trying to find the best gifts
for your loved ones (and the occasional non-loved one). Rather
than lose your locks, we've brought in some great gift ideas for
the movie enthusiast to make life a little bit easier for you.
First off, we've got toys and statues that run the pop culture
gamut, featuring horror icons like Freddy and Jason, characters
from the stylish Sin City film, your favorite pirate archetypes
from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and even an 18"
motion-activated statue of Uma Thurman as the Bride from Kill
Bill. Let's not forget the various bobble heads and NASCAR models
we've got, as well as a massive PEZ dispenser in the shape of
your favorite robot butler, C-3PO.
For those of you looking for a more interactive
experience, worry not. We've got chess and backgammon sets featuring
Elvis and the Lord of the Rings (not together, of course... Elvis
Presley Baggins?), Coca-Cola, and the Simpsons. CSI fans can have
some fun with the Handwriting Analysis kit, and if you love you
some Monopoly (perhaps with a distaste for proper grammar), we've
got several officially-licensed movie-themed Monopoly sets from
Parker Bros. featuring Disney's Pirates, James Bond, Lord of the
Rings, Batman, and American Chopper. Something to consider when
you're locked up with your families on the 25th.
On the movie and television front, we've
pulled aside all of our holiday films if you're so inclined to
watch those classic specials without the advertisements, and television
enthusiasts can find some of those rare "Complete Series"
box sets including MASH, Sex and the City, and Friends. On top
of all of that, we've still got a sale going on with titles marked
from 10% to 50% off the ticketed price! If that doesn't lower
your holiday stress level, then I'm afraid there's just no pleasing
you.
Finally, the two words everyone always
asks about: Boxing Day. The quick answer is "yes", as
it has long been a DVD Wave tradition to celebrate the new year
with a sale at cuh-raaaazy prices (you have my word that nobody
will talk like that while you're here). However, as we are hard
at work making sure people get their gifts on time, the details
of the Boxing Day sale are still being ironed out. For those of
you too busy this time of year, simply drop in on the 26th to
see what kind of deals we've got going on. For the rest of you,
you can check here at dvdwavecanada.com for the specifics, and
if you're on our mailing list (you can request to be added here
for free), keep an eye on your in-boxes for a friendly reminder.
Good luck and happy hunting,
Brendon @ DVD Wave
